Persevere in the Name of Perseverance

Speculations

There’s an old Hebrew saying that says “Teshaneh Makom, Teshaneh Mazal,” or in other words, “Change Your Place, Change Your Luck.” In the context of this phrase, luck may refer to destiny — or a series of events and experiences that lead you to where you’re supposed to be at this present moment in time.

The people you meet, and the complete solitude you experience on this journey, are all outcomes of decisions you made or circumstances that were dawned on you. As a globetrotter, sometimes it becomes a challenge to start over and succumb to the outcomes of those exact decisions.

This concept of meeting new people, creating new experiences, working non-stop to fulfill goals, new aspirations, new, new, new everything, all the time — it can definitely get exhausting, as much as it can be exciting. Even more than that, there are days, weeks, and months that you may end up on a rollercoaster ride of inconsistency or be steered out of focus.

Some days you will be strong, on some, weakness will make its way to you, and on others, you may be blinded by the power of vulnerability. So what do you do when you reach a downfall — a moment of complete and utter state of instability?

If there’s one thing I learned in all my travels abroad it’s this:

Breathe. Eat your favorite dessert. Drink some wine. Make art. Keep a travel diary. Document your experiences. Treat yourself with compassion and indulge in the present moment because that’s all you can do.

Because you’re only human. Because societal expectations of how to live your life should not bring you down. Because you’re strong and perfectly imperfect. Because the next person you meet also has their share of challenges.

Life has a funny way of working out in the end. No matter where you are in the world, and no matter how challenging the last year was, find comfort in fate and in knowing that soon everything will be okay.

After all the twists and turns, all the shoving and pushing, the somewhat impulsive behavior, the speaking without thinking — everything will be alright. Just breathe and let life take you down the path that you’re meant to explore.

Today, dear friends, I leave you with these thoughts and speculations on the past year, the present moment, and the strength to persevere in moments to come.

Until next time-

Yours Truly,

Nomad
